Chicago Style Stepping
"Steppin' (stepping)-- a social dance done in time to music that occurs on a steady recognizable 'downbeat'. The ability to take steps to the downbeat and still come back in time with your partner is widely accepted as steppin. The smooth gracefulness of the dance is also a characteristic of the dance. The dance includes a lead and follow position and thus to be well executed requires physical interaction between the individuals. Various turn patterns, footwork and pulls are all inclusive elements of the dance."
The National Association Of Steppers Advisory Board is an organization founded by Steppers with express intent of establishing best practice guidelines for our community and its business relations in ways that will lead to it being recognized as a National Dance Art Form. We realize that this will take enormous ground work and foundation laying but we are up to the challenge!
The organization was founded by a new school stepper, Tanya Nash of Chicago, IL in 2007.
As a lone investor, promoter and organizer of the public meetings held thru out 2007 word spread slowly about this organization. Tanya, a Steppin Instructor herself has been an advocate for standardization in teaching methods, contest judge training, industry standards with regard to compensation and continuing education for those who do learn and teach.
Volunteer applications are being accepted until June of 2008 for several responsibilities.
We prefer volunteers to be members of the steppers community but welcome all volunteer assistance. For more information please call directly 773-407-7344.
The Steppers Community consists of event promoters, dancers, club owners, instructors, DJ's and lovers of the dance itself.
With the release of R. Kelly's Step In The Name Of Love the Steppin Community has grown to be a national neighborhood with pulse, heartbeat and rhythm all its own!
This organization lends support and feedback as well as services to individuals, clubs and organizations that pledge to do business in our Steppin Community with integrity and a commitment to preservation along with innovation.
